Dear all,

Thank you very much for allowing me to come and participate in the 40th Cherry Blossom Tournament. I enjoyed my stay there very much. My games were excellent matches, and I am honorned to have been able to help all of you and the teams in reffing a sucessful tournament. It was amazing. A special thanks goes out to Mark Koiwai and John for taking the time to evaluate and coach my games. The advice and wisdom is very much appreciated and will be practiced then applied where necessary.

I am glad to have met you all and I look forward to seeing all of you again sometime soon.

Be healthy and have a great rest of the season.

Head Ref Jim McNeely in action

Patton v. USARFU & PSRFR

As most of you know, 4 years ago a spectator was tragically killed by lightning at the Severn River 7s.

And as all but the newest referees know, 2 years ago the PSRFR was sued for alleged negligence relating to that tragedy.

That lawsuit has been hanging over our heads since.

I am very pleased to be able to announce that today the Maryland Court of Appeals (the highest court in Maryland) issued an opinion dismissing the lawsuit against the Society.

We are all especially gratful to our attorneys Brown & Warranch for their efforts on our behalf and this good result. I also want especially to mention our gratitude to USA Rugby, whose CIPP coverage assisted in securing good legal representation for the Society.

And finally, I want to thank all the members of the Society in any way involved in this for keeping their heads and at all times handling themselves professionally and responsibly.

Paul Rosenszweig, El Presidente.

Referees!!!

I'll be helping new allocations officer Pete Long this season by scheduling referees for the high school matches. Please let me know your availability for each Friday, and possibly some other days of the week, in the mid-afternoons.

High School rugby has only a few law changes from the college and above type; if you've never done a H.S. game before, no worries, we'll help you and you'll have nothing but fun. H.S. games are a great way to stay in shape for Saturday matches, and you'll find your wits on the field sharpening each time you take the field.

I'd like to have a list of men and women I can count on each week, but if you can do just one Friday a month (taking off work early), that will work as well. We will also keep track of who does what games and those who perform to a reasonable standard will be rewarded with games of significance come playoff time. The adrenaline flows just as freely -- yours and the players'.

Respond soonest, if you please. The season is upon us. Buzz McClain
